Solo Stepping Your Hobie 16 MastBy Jim KuscheThis is easily done by running line (I use a old mainsheet or jibsheet) through the jib cleat then up through the center bridle wire clevis. The line is then SECURELY tied to the forestay wire slightly above the loop. The line you use must be able to securely hold the forestay and be securely held by the jib cleat. I do not remove the existing jibsheet. The process is the same as with someone helping you but you simply grab the line fed through the jib cleat prior to raising the mast. When fully raised you pull the line taught and cleat it (easily done with foot). The tighter you make it the more slack you have to connect the forestay pin. The line should hold the mast up securely while you jump down and insert the forestay pin. Obviously there should be some caution used the first time you try this. It shouldn't be difficult and I've never had any problem doing it this way. The reverse process can be used to take it down. |
