On The Wire, On The Brink

I can't believe that you would even think of stopping this ezine! I come to my computer at the begining of every month to look for a new "issue". I just bought my first Cat, not a Hobie, an old SolCat 18, but it was a more than reasonable buy. I'm a student at East Carolina University in Greenville NC and have been bitten by the Cat bug. If it has to do with sailing, I am involved. I learned to sail on big boats, which is nothing like sailing a cat, no way near as fun or rewarding. I've been out for the last two months that I have had it at least once every weekend and live to fly a hull on this big thing. Keep it on the web! If their is anything that I could do to help, please let me know. I'm still a novice but catching on quick. Funny story, already snapped one shroud watching the mast fall like it was in slow motion. Maybe your used to it, but to watch it for the first time......sailing fun! This is the only decent cat magazine on the web, or that I even know of....you can't quit!

Your comments kind of confirmed a worry, that we might lose your fine publication. I was a bit depressed as it looked like Sept might not come out.

You are doing a great service.

I am the Editor of the Hobie Fleet 23 newsletter. I try also to provide information each month. You work is more ambitious (and better) than mine.

Our newsletter is on our web site www.hobiefleet23.org. Please feel free to take a look at the issues that are archived there and use anything you feel is helpful.

One suggestion would be our July article on heavy weather. We (some of Fleet 23) blew away in the same storm as Goeff's wonderful article. Bob Mimlitch wrote a quick piece on how to survive such a storm that we think is pretty good.

Also, I have plagerized a couple of songs that I think are funny, but...

Keep up the good work. We'll miss you if you're forced to stop.

I read your On The Wire "On the Brink" Article. I just purchased my first sail boat about four months ago Hobie 14 Turbo. As you know Denver, Colorado is known for it's terrific sailing (not). In my search for new and relevant information on the Hobie I looked on the local news stands to no avail. I then surfed the WEB and found the Hobie site and also found ON THE WIRE. I would hate to see your EZINE go away. Even though I'm a beginner I will try to contribute. I have read every one of your archived issues. Let me give you an example of what I have found great about your EZINE. The Cajun Shrimp recipe was awesome. The Tec Tip on Worn rudder castings I have applied. In addition to all of the wonderful feature articles. I don't have a business so I cant buy advertising. If you printed your EZINE I would definitely subscribe. I will try to submit articles to help out. Let me know if there is anything else I can do to help. I'm hoping the adulation from your adoring fans will keep ON THE WIRE going.

Just thought I would drop you a line to let you know how much I appreciate the OTW and all the work you put into it. I think all the hobie and a lot of the other multi sailors really enjoy it.I know I go to it a couple of times a month EVERY month. Keep up thr good work. Please.

You guys make this really tough to quit. Thanks to all for the nice words, as well as those who offered articles and advice on keeping the site alive. The site may start evolving a bit, but it will probably stay alive. -ed.

Cool Port of Call

I have created a Hobie Cat Sail Registry where people can enter their own information, even a photo. The registry can be searched using multiple criteria.

Right now, my boat is the only one on there. I you think it is worth a link from OTW, feel free to do it.

Keep up the good work with the OTW. I wish I could get out on the water enough to have something to write about.

Well, there's 2 boats in your registry now. This is definately a good idea and would be quite valuable once populated with a lot of boats. Not only is it worth a link, but we'll make it our "Cool Port of Call". This should get it some exposure. -ed.
