The First Sailing Day
A Poem on Hobies

By Linda Perks

When you look at the new morning just as you awake, you know it's going to be a good one because you're heading to the lake.

There's nothing more exciting to start off your day, than the new sailing season that begins on the first weekend in May.

As you take your boat off the trailer and start raising your mast, you start thinking of ways to stop coming in last.

Now with your sails all hoisted you hop on your boat, because you just can't wait to get your baby afloat.

With the wind blowing strong you go as fast as you dare, trying to get that one hull high in the air.

You're all hiked out with the wind rushing by, and your crew praying to God: "If he flips this boat I'll just die!".

Now as you look across the water and the light slips away, you mark on your calendar it was a great "Hobie" day!!
