Catamaran Sailing
Catamaran Pictures

Hey. Remember me? After a 2 year hiatus, On The Wire is back.

Much has changed. I've moved to the California central coast. Frank Pineau has moved to Seattle, bought a kayak, and has his Hobie for sale. (But he will still be back for guest "stunts" in future articles.)

As for me, my sailing has changed from the leisurely recreational lake sailing to regatta racing and adventurous journeys to the Channel Islands. In part, these journeys to the islands prompted me to start up the ezine just because I had a great story to tell. Then there was my sailing buddy, Gary Friesen, who kept introducing me during the latest trip as "Bill Mattson, Editor of On The Wire, an Online Magazine". Hell... I was afraid some of these people might actually get on the 'net and look for it.

On thing has not changed: My desire to build a free information resource, useful to beginning catamaran sailors, as well as seasoned veterans. Our archives are visited often, so I think we've got a good base. But there's quite a bit to clean up.

The classified pages are not very easy to use. Look for an upgrade in the near future which will allow tailored searches, including the ability to limit the items to those in your area. The archives have some link problems once you get into an old issue and try and move around.
I'll be working on it.

But the content is something I can't do alone. If I've learned anything from creating this site, it's that there is a wealth of people in this sport with great information to share. Adventures, humor, product reviews, technical information, and just plain old simple innovation.

If you've got a story to tell, a tip to share, or a project to tell other sailors about, drop me a line. I've received some excellent stuff in the past, and I just know there is more stuff out there. Important note: In those last months of publication back in 1999, I became quite disorganized, and even lost some data. If you submitted material to me around that time, and have not seen it published, PLEASE let me know. Especially the guy who sent the pictures of the Hobies sailing in the winter snow and ice. (I've still got the pictures, but need to find the source!) I really have not seen anything yet that I would not put up on this site.

Any format is fine. Got a problem putting words together? Send me your best rendering with a request for me to edit it. Got pictures you need to add, but don't know how? Let me know, and I'll put it together for you. Your work will not only be seen in a current issue, but will be archived for the future use of cat sailors everywhere.

Enjoy the issue. It's good to be back.

Sail fast, sail safe,
