Well, the hit counters went nuts last month. It's suprising what a response you get when you blow stuff up. (See Oct issue Humor section available in the Archives). There are definately a few sickos (like me) in the readership out there, so plan on seeing more of this stuff in the future.

This month, Dave Aronson gives us a peek behind the scenes of the Hobie Mailing List. If you are a Hobie sailor and not a member of this list, you are missing out on the best Hobie resource on the net. See the article for information on subscribing. We are currently developing a page which will allow you to subscribe and unsubcribe with a form. This should help those having a problem with the syntax.

Don't miss Jack Bentley's exciting true story about a hazardous encounter with a lunatic on a PWC. You'll be ordering the Sidewinder after reading this one.

A while back, a thread started on the Hobie Mailing List regarding Polars. The discussion degraded into uses for polar bears and other arctic creatures before Al Bowers stepped in and let us all know what they were. Working with polar charts provided by Al, we offer some performance comparisons between different sailboats in this month's interesting article.

It's fall, and time for football games and cool weather sailing. Geoff von Wollenberg has you covered on both counts. Warm up quick with his "10 Yards to Heaven" recipe. At press time (ftp time?) this recipe was a finalist in the Good Morning Texas Armchair Quarterback Contest.

Kim Miller provided an excellent, in depth coverage of battens last month (See Oct issue available in the Archives). This month, Kim appears in the Humor Section giving us famous movie lines, had Hobies been in the movies. Also see the 6 types of Hobie Sailors. (I really had fun with this one).

In the first of a regular monthly column, Jeff Browning discusses the issue of PWCs. Jeff has been researching PWC legislation, and looking for your comments to assess the need for organized action on this issue. Make your views known. This could turn into something big.

Enjoy the issue, and remember that we are always looking for content. Drop us a line if you have anything to submit.

Sail fast, sail safe,

Just getting out of the hospital in time to do my editorial for this months OTW. (See Oct issue Humor section available in the Archives). As I'm getting quite famous for my knack of "leaving body parts" around, I was relieved to hear the doctors say my casts should be off soon, and my hair should begin to grow out within a couple of months. I've also decided to stop smoking cigars "for my health", and Bill bought me a new pair of shorts in a kind of a "pre-stained" brownish color. (He still owes me a new hat)! We have managed to re-assemble my boat, and I'm really not looking forward to the next set of tests. (Stay tuned).

I'm also the kind of person who will buy's just about anything I can bolt onto my H16, and some things I bought work really good. We've already reported on the deck ports we installed, and this month I'm reporting on a really neat Tramp Bag, and some sailing gloves I'm using.

The "hit counters" reveal lots of sailors are sailing through the "On-The-Wire" pages. Bill and I are especially pleased at the reception, and I hope you don't "tune in" just to see me get hit my a missile!
