Marine-Tex Epoxy |
I've heard that this stuff is about the best on the market for repairs to your boat. We tried it in this month's rudder raking project. The problem we encountered is that the ratio of catalyst is very hard to determine. The kit comes with a very small vial of catalyst and a large jar of resin material. You've got a 5/1 ratio with a 25% margin of error. We tried mixing the small amount we needed, and finally got it right on the 3rd try. (Wasting a lot of time in the process). The alternative is to mix |
the whole batch, use what
you need, then throw the rest away. At $9 a pop, this is expensive for small projects. We
opted to use JB Weld on the rudder raking project, mixed just what we needed, and got the
50/50 mix right the first time. It's cheaper too. (If your project requires color matching,
however, the Marine-Tex is the superior choice). Available from West Marine and Murrays Marine. Good luck. Bill Mattson mattson@earthlink.net |
