Jesse Martin's Solo Circumnavigation A Record Breaking Voyage Starts Next Month By Bill Mattson |
Many of you may have read about Jesse Martin in our September '98
issue. (If not, the articles are located on the author's website
Kim Miller's Hobie Cat Pages.
On Sunday 6th December 1998, Jesse will be departing Melbourne, Australia with the intent to break the world record for the youngest, non-stop, unassisted circumnavigation. "...From Melbourne he will head East to South-West Cape New Zealand, then across the Pacific to round Cape Horn. Then up the coast of South America and across the equator to pass his antipodal point. Then South again and around the Cape of Good Hope where he will be on a home run to Cape Leeuwin and back to Melbourne. |
Jesse expects his journey to take 250-280 days, and
aims to return on or before his 18th birthday. This
should break the current world record (David Dicks, at
18 years 41 days)...." Jess Martin's Solo Circumnavigation Website
This voyage is sponsored by the Australian Conservation Foundation. You will be able to follow this voyage on Jesse's website at http://www.peg.apc.org/~acfenv/. The site will be updated weekly with images and narrative from Jess himself. On The Wire would like to wish Jesse a safe and successful voyage. |
