Grand Isle - Grand Isle, LA USA
Wind Conditions: Excellent Water Conditions: Good Launch facilities: Excellent Beach conditions: Good Traffic conditions: Excellent Safety: Excellent Charges: $2/day, $10/day camping About the place: At the beginning of Hwy. 1, right off I-10 or off Hwy 90. Follow Hwy 1 till it ends. You're there. When you enter Grand Isle East State Park, your first sight will be the sign on the toll booth saying, "NO JET SKIS"! Yes, you can spend an entire weekend camped out right on the beach next to your boat or near it (they ask that boats be kept on the west side of the camp area), and NEVER see or hear a ski. Sand is cafe-au-lait brown, as it's Mississippi silt, but the water is clear; just looks brown because of the brown sand. Camping facilities are very good, bars nearby (go to Pirate's Cove Marina) have live bands so you can Cajun dance all night long. Fall and Spring sailing bring waves 5' to 7' at highest, and Wind Wind Wind at 15-25. The drive down Hwy. 1 is scenic and the people at Grand Isle are very nice. Go see the Cajun Bahamas!
