Calremont Beach, CA - Long Beach, CA USA
Wind Conditions: Excellent Water Conditions: Good Launch facilities: Good Beach conditions: Good Traffic conditions: Excellent Safety: Excellent Charges: $5.00 per day About the place: This is just an update of the sight already described. I have included the launch fee. Some additional items of note include: It is recommended that you contact the City of Long Beach Marine Bureau prior to leaving for the beach as the area is closed periodically for water contamination reasons and special events. (310) 594-0951. The water in Long Beach Harbor is actually quite clean but the flashflood occurences can casue overloading of the treatment plant facilities so Wintertime sailing (rainy season) can be a hit and miss deal. Claremont also makes a nice departure point for Catalina Island (26 Nautical Miles). Summertime winds are 12-22 knts almost everyday with 18-28 in the month of August. June/July/Aug/ Sept daytime average wind speed from 1-7pm is 17 knots. The enclosed water area (Harbor) is 8.0 miles across and the entire length is guarded by a continuous breakwater with two "gates" within the wall. Winter weather conditions vary greatly so from October 30th thru March 30 I would strongly suggest checking with the NWS or NOAA for an updated forcast. The address is 5200 Ocean Ave. Long Beach, CA. Directions: From North or Northeast of Long Beach: Take the 405fwy or the 605fwy to the 7th St 22fwy (West)offramp. Follow this to the Studebaker St offramp and turn left (South). Continue to the "T" intersection (Westminster Blvd.) and turn right (West). Continue through the Naples area to Bayshore Ave. Turn left on Bayshore and continue until you come to the "T" intersection. Turn right. (West) The launch ramp is immediately on your left. Have a crisp (bring a couple) $5.00 bills. The meter can be finiky. A beach barrel/cat wheels are a must. Local food establishments we suggest: "Chucks steakhouse" for breakfast or "Schooner or Later" Cafe for the same. For Sunday afternoons: "Panama Joes" is five minutes away (leave your boat at the ramp for parking purposes.) The band starts at three on Sundays. Closest fast food: Jack in the Box Ocean blvd. and Livingston Ave. (seven blocks West of the ramp.) You may also want to bring a bike or roller blades as there is a very nice bike/roller path at the ramp.
