The Round Texel
The Round Texel has grown in 38 years time the world's largest catamaran event.This year, 250 catamarans compete on the waters around Texel to honor with the goal as quickly as possible to sail the island of Texel. With approximately 10,000 visitors is a great public event.
Recent years, the Round Texel Race has become a major public event. With approximately 10,000 people on the beach and thousands more at the Lighthouse and Oudeschild, the Round Texel Race is a fantastic event. For the public it is wonderful to see how the boats are made ready and the water going through the often violent surf on. And then the mass start, 250 catamarans will start simultaneously. The starting line is located just off the coast and is marked by two major launch vessels and a helicopter with smoke signals in the air. Just before the start of the voltage on the beach is palpable. In 2015, the mass start on Saturday June 6 will take place between approximately 08:30 and 10:30.
After the start was to follow the race through screens with intermediate positions and the announcer on the beach in collaboration with Radio Texel provides a live report. And to entertain the audience find it fun live performances in the tent city and you can of course equally good food and drink.
After about 3 hours of sailing, the first boats back within sight of the finish. The first-finishers are festively retrieved and will be honored on the big stage. In the evening the big-over ceremony is held.
