I have a '79 H18 and I was ordering a main halyard for it and there is a 3' difference between the H18 and H18SX so other than the mast being taller are there any way to tell the difference between the two just by looking? Thanks
Thanks guys! The boat was sold to me as an '80 but the hull number says it is a '79 and I guess the wings were added later cause it has the Magnum wings on it. I went ahead and ordered the SX halyard so I guess I will just trim it to where I need it. I also am having a problem figuring out the jib halyard. I have the manual and the performance manual and I still can't figure it out. I think that I am missing the luff tensioner from what I can tell. Thanks for all the help again!
I'm another newbie who just went through this too. I couldn't figure it out from the assembly guide, and since I was going to the dealer for parts, I asked while I was there. It wasn't like any other boat I'd sailed on, but it turned out to be pretty tidy and slick. The Video CATAMARAN SAILING? A STEP BY STEP GUIDE http://www.murrays.com/archive/43.pdf while not a thrilling watch, has a very clear description.
Hope this helps...
1. Halyard goes inside the zipper, zipper the jib while pulling down on the halyard.
2. Attach the tack of the sail with a shackle.
3. Pass the halyard through the shackle like a block and back up the sail.
4. Pass the halyard through the eye of the steel part the halyard making another impromptu block - presto instant downhaul
5. Pull the halyard down to tension the luff and cleat in the sail.
6. coil the end, hold in place while you put into the last of the zipper on the luff.
Got it!!!! There is already a block on the end of the halyard wire, and I guess that is how that works out. Thanks a million!!!! Now if all the things that I ordered for it would get here before next weekends long weekend, 4 days off. :)
