the hobie has a hook system that holds the main up.
after its raised and hooked stick the rest of the halyard
in your tramp pocket. its not needed till you lower the main sail
For some reason, when they designed the 18, they did away withthe cleat (the 16 has one, despite having the lug and catch system for locking the halyard wire in). Out of paranoia, I usually tie a non-jamming knot in the halyard above the part that I stow in the pocket, in case the hook and ring, for whatever reason, part company while out sailing. That way, the main won't drop. Not that there has been a problem lately, but before I had the comptip retrofit put in, the upper part of the luff track had reached a point where head of the sail would pull out of the track while underway, so this evolved as a cure and aI kept doing it.
