The cam blocks on my Harken 8:1 downhaul are sticky so of course they are not doing a great job and downhaul gets loose. Any suggestions on reviving them? Lubricants? Cautions when disassembling?
This is going to sound overly simple or condescending, but, use high pressure water, and manually exercise/pivot each cleat. That should do it. Also check that the screw going down the center of each cleat is not over tightened (compressed and binding) the cleat from pivoting.
IMO, do NOT use lubricants.
if sticking i agree with Philip,
if sticky, stop lubricating with honey.
if blocks, (although this is more for main blocks) you may need to remove and soak in ultra hot water (not boiling) and soak and repeat. this can free up salts built up..
