Sailing gets as Sexy As Vampires July 30, 2010

At least among teenage girls sailing should get a big boost July 30 when the movie "Charlie St. Cloud" opens in theaters.

They aren't sailing beachcats, but at least it's a trapeze boat, International 420.

At least there's sailing...even if it is a pig 420. Wish Hollywood would have used Volvo Extreme 40s or ORMA 60s...that would have been sexy icon_biggrin

The big question is will the sailing scene compare to the International 14 scene from Wind? Personally, the scene was hot icon_wink

The boat was a Formula 40.

some interested facts. Randy Smyth skippers for Pierce Bronson.

When Pierce rolls across the tramp in the above posted Youtube vidio, notice that he is cranking on an EMPTY winch.

The boat was refurbished after filming the Thomas Crown Affair and a new 72' aluminum wing mast was added. The designer was Morrelli & Melvin. 23 foot beam, originally built in 1989.

neat... glad i don't have to step that mast

when searching for the difference between a formula and x 40 i found this fun video

i have been on a sailboard (without sail) towed by a P18. it was a blast. i was able to almost get to the front of the cat by leaning hard and carving away
Andrew,
The boat in your video is named Soma. I have met this boat while sailing in the Virgin Islands to clear customs. It was moored just outside of the extremely crowded harbor of Cruz Bay in St. Johns. I have pictures of it. I think the mast was shortened to better complement the winds there. I'll go find some pics and try to find a place to post it.
