tore my jib a few weeks ago first day out after having my sails restored... it was a bummer. luckily, my friend has a sewing machine and he assured me we could fix it. having never sewn anything, i turned to my trusted resource for the skinny on sail repair(youtube). almost anything you would be interested in has several videos(good, bad, and ugly), you just have to wade through them til you find something that makes sense to you. sailrite had several on sail repairs and the materials needed and after watching a bunch, i felt good about it. ordered all the stuff i needed(uv thread,5oz repair tape, needles, basting tape), stuff came in and i was ready. life interrupts and can't seem to get my buddy to get motivated to fix it...he is good with sewing: upolstry, bimmini, curtains, hell he could probably sew high fashion if you keep the beer flowing, but time is moving on and the winds have been howling. anyhoo, my spasing pushed me to the sewing machine(i have just as much experience with colon surgury). once again, youtube to the rescue. after the useual "i got this" it was time to watch the pros, installing the bobbin was blowing my feeble mind. thank you fabulas sewing ladies for helping this caveman overcome the complexites of the modern home sewing machine. repair turned out ok for a newb, i'll be sailing tuesday, and i promise i won't attempt colon surgury!
