Now that we've sailed our p16 several times, I'm wondering if we have the jibsheet and barberhauler rigged properly. The jibsheet blocks are attached to the base of the shroud adjusters by a steel cable approx 18" long and to the barberhauler rope. The jibsheet blocks feel like they're a bit too high off the ttramp making it a little awkward to really tighten the jib. A catamaran sailing instructor also made the same comment but couldn't remember the Prindle rigging. Any photos would be great, since the manual does not show the same setup as my cat.

It sounds like you are missing one line. A line approx 3/16 and 6 feet long should go between the jib blocks. Tie one end to the eye of the pigtail cable the lead it down one of the grommets in the midle of the tramp and up through the one next to it and then to the other
pigtail and pull the line tau and tie offt. This keeps the jib blocks down were they belong. The middle set of grommets is normal conditions. Futher back is for higher winds and forward is for lighter winds. We used to lace a line through all the grommets and use a snap shackle so we could change settings while sailing.

I'm pretty sure they are the same but some P16's may have a barberhauler setup with some blocks on the font beam that might make it more confusing.

Thanks Dustin, I was starting to think my P16 was the only one rigged that way. There is a block with a jam cleat on each side of the front beam. My jib is rigged for that system. I have the blocks and sheets for the system above, (per the manual), but those are not what the previous owner was using. To me it looks like a better system as the angle to the jib is better and you do not have to worry about catching the sheets at the mast.

Just to clarify the barberhauler setup mounted on the front beam is in addition to what is illustrated above not instead of it. Just gives a little added advantage but will not replace the stock setup. Make sure you have a jib sheet jam preventer in place or you will hang your jib sheets under the mast. This is just a section of bungie tied from the lower support beneath the front beam, up to the mast and back down to the support on the other side. Looks like a triangle from the front. Jib sheets go outside the jam preventer.

Right with the barberhauler you have the jib setup like the pic above but you have some additional parts.

The blocks on the upper left and right of the picture go in your jib sheets on each side between your blocks on your tramp and your jib clew. The other blocks go on the outside of your beams. The line runs from the first block out to the beam block then back along the beam the cleats in the picture. Same for both sides. I am not sure why there are 2 lines I would think it better to run one continuous line like you jib sheet where it comes out the cleat on one side then back on the cleat on the other mirroring the first side on the other.

The purpose is fine tuning of the jib. The block between you jib blocks and the clew and be pulled on to pull the jib farther towards the beam.

For now I recommend you ignore the barberhauler and just sail it with the regular jib setup. When you think you have a good handle on sailing the boat without it then you can look at adding it. To me it just seems to make things overly complicated. I think it can help a bit sailing downwind but it is not needed to sail the boat.

If the PO was running his jib through the barberhauler setup he probably never had the jib tuned where it needed to be.

OK, I will have to look at how the blocks are attached, but the hardware in the kit is the same. I bought the boat from some folks that had never sailed before. They are of little use when it comes to how the boat is rigged now. I do have all the standard jib rigging. Odd bit is, the jib has a brand new sheet that is simply center knotted at the jib clew. For all the world it looks like they used that with the barberhauler to control the jib. The standard hardware has a much older sheet attached to it. It is serviceable, but a lot older. That's what led me to believe they had changed the rigging.
Thanks for the info, I can rig the standard rigging with the new line and it should be fine.

Sorting through the rigging, I do have the barberhauler hardware attached to the jib sheet. If any of you run the barberhauler, can you tell me if this is the way it rigs.?
The manual says it is 16' of 1/4" line. It appears that it attaches to each block,(mid way on the sheet), runs thru the block on the beam, and thru the jam cleat on each side. The question is, does it run over the top of the block on the beam, under to the jam cleat? I am replacing all the rigging, and would like to get it right.
Also, if you do run this rig, is 16' long enough. I am thinking of getting red line to differentiate with the black jib sheet and 20' would be easier to find.
