I’m looking for a better cooler and radio location on my H18. Currently I strap them down front & center on the tramp; they get in the way and don’t work well with the curved tramp on the 18... I d like to build some sort of rack that spans between the hulls just forward of the front cross bar. I looked into using a wire closet rack from home depot but it seems very flimsy and would require bracing. I’d really like to keep this as light as possible, any ideas?
you could drill 2 small holes in the lip of your h18 on each hull and string or run a small front tramp to hold those items. I did that on my mystere (although ii have no hull lip to drill so i needed to create othere attachment points
That's a great idea, I actually have a spare track and tramp I could cut up and use to get a nice clean install... although I might wneed to use a cargo net so it's not scooping up gallons of water...
My only worry about the front tramp is swamping it all the time... I may need to run some arched aluminum bars under it to bring it to the front cross bar's height...
I almost ordered that radio yesterday! Looks perfect for a cat, my only hesitation was using C batteries.... I think I'm going to cannibalize my Ryobi job site radio and put it in a watertight container with a marine speaker. This way I can use the rechargeable power tool batteries....
If you place holes in your lip, and tighten it up.. it will be at your cross bar height (or close). It is not an issue at all for me (on my 5.5)
I agree, i have gone through many radios... 6 D's doesn't cut it (for me) and only lasts a few rides (expensive)
I use this... It's very loud! you can hear it in 25mph wind :) fits in a small drybag. and it's cheap - It's $29 so when i break it or it gets too wet.... I get a new one.. and you got the battery and charger....
Yeah that's the radio, great sound and battery life. Although it only took one rough day on the ocean and it got cooked... that's why I’m gonna try the DIY waterproof version...
Hobie made a cooler rack that mounted to the dolphin striker at one time An Igloo Playmate fit in it just fine As far as tunes go an MP3 player and something like an IHome speaker thingy stuck in a dry bag attached to the tramp Remember always buy canned beer for sailing The bottles will sink!!

It sounds amazing and has 8 hours internal battery life. It also streams pandora through my iphone via wireless bluetooth. When a call comes, mash a button and you can talk/listen with the Jambox's built in mic. I've done it from the wire. It's wrapped in a ziplock and sits on the boom with some shock chord. Allegedly they have a waterproof case in development. Pretty slick.
