How long is the mast? The hulls would fit in a standard shipping container.

Here's a YouTube video of probably that same boat sailing in 1984!

Is your friend getting his 36 ready for the summer? If so I would be happy to fly down to help you sail her!!

QuoteHow long is the mast?

It has to be over 50'. The boat is 36, the front of the mast on my buddies hangs over the roof of the crew cab we used to tow it, plus goes past the sterns at least 6'. I never thought to measure it last week when we were there. The trailer is custom built, with racks to hold the crossbeams, two people can barely lift the front one.
If it is the same boat, IIRC he spent nearly 100K getting it ready, just before that video was made.

I was just out there Dave, on the way to pick up the Nacra 5.0 we bought. Willi has done some work on it, & has moorage for the summer. He wants me to come on the inaugural sail. I told him nothing over 10kts for sea trials, that thing would be ass biting scary in a Force 5.

the mast on my 18 square is 30.5' so the mast should be around 61'

The previous owner did capsize it. I talked to him when we picked the boat in photo up, he said they used a "large power boat" to right it.
Here is another photo that better shows the mast length.

For sheet control it is equipped with multiple winches of the sort you would find on a 40' Lead Sled. The front beam weighs over 100lb, looks like a steel pipe with 3/8" walls. The DS V brace is a 3/4" cable.

Erice, are you referring to the one in the ad, or the one my buddy owns?
I took those photos last fall when he moved it to his hangar in S. Ont. It is boat #3, of 10 I believe, built 1976.
Almost 2 years ago I was out in Carpenteria, Ca (Murrays) & made a stop in Malibu to pick up some parts from a gent who built parts for Nacra way back when. He had a double carport of Cat stuff, along with a Carbon 20 & carbon mast he had built. I asked if he ever met Tom Rolland, he pulled an old photo off the wall, "this is Tom & I, on a large boat he built to try & set a speed record".
I asked him if Mr Rolland was still active in the aerospace or boat industry. He replied Tom "was not doing well, not well at all".
I didn't pursue the question.
Damon, how did the title of the thread get changed?

Why does Australia have all the good nacra's. The 36 and the 430 (pocket rocket) are actually both on my wishlist. the 36 to take larger parties touring. and the 430 for shooting around the lagoon.

Heh heh, I don't think the 36 is a touring boat. Unless your guests like being scared witless. Probably better to get a Hobie 21 sport cruiser or a getaway for that.

Sorry, I changed it to be more specific and help searchers find the thread about the Nacra 36.

OK, that's fine, I was concerned I possibly had a virus, or my computer password file got hacked.

the r36 that was taken to australia 30? years ago

was eventually bought by nacra australia

who used it to take molds off, for the new nacra 36

then the old boat was surplus to requirements and advertised for $20,000

and months later sold to Tom Rolland

who shipped it back to the usa

apparently he had always had 1 himself but capsized and broke it a few years ago

seeing as the 1 in oz was so cheap, and he presumably still had a lot of good parts from the other boat, he bought it

at 36' the hulls must fit into a 40' container easily

not sure about the mast

some nice pics of 2of10 about
