Texas Dash Video (Leg 4 of Great Texas 300)

The Dash is leg 4 of the Great Texas 300. It is open to other boats. Kind of a race within a race. 40 miles from Surfside Beach to E Galveston Island.

This is the start and us working our way out thru the surf. First time for me sailing the P19 in the ocean.

And our finish.

You took us by a few seconds right there at the finish. I'm going to get the rig balanced correctly, right now I can't hold the weather helm. Good job, we aren't going to let that happen again. What lake do ya'll sail on? We may make the trip to come up there and go to one of your regattas.

Ernie,
That finish was fun. I was working my butt off releasing and hauling the sheet in in order to keep the hull up and pass y'all. I was out of batteries so I don't have any video of it. With the handicap, a few seconds wasn't enough for us.

I have the same weather helm issue with the new, larger sails. I was getting cramps being on a starboard tack and pulling the tiller really hard for 40 miles. I can't rake the rudders forward anymore or else they don't stay locked. I'm going to rake the mast forward some to see how that helps. Really don't want to spend the money for P19MX style rudders.

I sail out of grapevine lake in DFW. grapevinesailing.org. We have about 3 regular cats that race phrf. I've been trying to get more to come out. But there is not much interest in racing. We have series racing just about every weekend. The next big 2 day regatta will be Goldrush around September. 3 boats and we have our own multihull fleet.
