i want to build a hobie cat 10 feet long but i dont now if i can do it 10 or needs to be 12 feet .. i got couple ideas how to do it by myself but i want some body can help me with that im from pr ..and is dificult to find a good deal..please help mee.???

I think that you want to build your own small beachcat? You probably wouldn't be here asking questions if you were a boat designer so you'll need plans. For a beginning builder you might do well to look at an old design that can be built from simple materials, even the mast!

thanks all of u ..turbo im from puerto rico i was living in valrico florida 30 from tampa .. in bay of tampa y see thet hobie cat and i starting loving it .. and now i start to building one in puerto rico but i want to do it 10 feet long i never see one in this size and i want to do it ... im start doing the mold in foam 2" panel and fiberglass outside but i have couples problems in the size and the stroger of the material .. thanks ..and sorry my english is bad,,,

Any particular reason you need it to be 10 feet? Need to load it in a truck or something?

There have been a few beachcat models that small, but they tend to not be able to carry much weight at all, more for children. The Catyak was only 8 1/2 feet long.

ok thanks not to be 10 feet i can go 12 feet ..u just need the formula to do it i think im going to do the mold in foam panel ousite fiberglass ..or y can go with wood panels and fiber glass the wind and the waves are strong here y need the formula easy to understand and easy construction .. thanks i ging to start the pontooms firts ,,

also i need a little orientacion about how to it and wich materials i can used thanks all for ur help

There's that saying about "It's more expensive to buy every car part and build your own car, than it is to just buy a complete car"
...my guess is the same goes for boats, and especially catamarans which will eventually need off-the-shelf items like shackles, components for a traveler, blocks for the sheets, sails, etc, things that are nearly impossible to make with wood and fiberglass.

The cost of raw material may be cheap, but your labor, time, and guessing what will and will not work is like putting yourself back in the 60s without the same resources as hobie.

I hope you just don't spend 6 months of your time, money, and energy to be left with 2 pontoons sitting in your yard. Try some contacts and check local boat storage facilities if you're this committed.

There are a lot of boat construction methods (and you still need the design) but take a look at this one, it uses foam strips without having to build a complete plug and you only need half a hull mold.

This guy has built some beautiful A-Class cats very quickly with this method and he was nice enough to document it.

thanks i will going ..10 feet plywood panel an fiberglass out side inside little foam what do u think,,, the hull its gona be 10 feet long ..beam 2 feet and to 2ffet to the top to the water
