Hey Brian The Utah Sailing association will be at Bear Lake on the Labor Day weekend. We have several 5.8 owners in our group. If you want to come pick their brains it can probably be arranged. We have a primo group site on the south end of the lake. Camping fees to joins us for a family are around $45-$55 and that includes dinner Saturday night.
This might be a good time get some help with that 5.8. Even though the group is a Utah sailing group we have many members that come down from Pinedale, Wyoming to hang with us also. You are probably about as close to Bear Lake or possibly even closer than I am so if your interested we spend Memorial weekend, 4th of July weekend, and Labor Day weekend there every year. The camping is prearranged by the group and rates are cheaper if paid early in the season as part of our membership. It can be hard to get these sites on your own because they are group sites and are reserved almost a year in advance.
We don't even have to use the ramp with the water so high right now we just drop our boats onto beach wheels from the parking lot and walk them the 50ft or so to the water. If you don't have wheels don't worry most are more than happy to share.
Let me know if your interested. On Saturday we will have an unofficial race up to Garden City to eat lunch at LeBeau's and Back then a Big Group Spaghetti Dinner.
