Hey,

I have two years experience on a H18. This year I will be crewing on a NACRA Infusion at our club races.

I have no experience with a spinnaker. Can anyone point me to some good videos or reading on how to work the spinnaker???

it's not rocket science...
you learned your main, you learned your jib,
this is another sail...
just things feel a little odd going downwind faster than upwind... at first.

that said:
1. go to the gym and work your arms and back, so that:
( you can launch and retrieve FAST )
2. get some good gloves so that you can trim as needed...
3. let the skipper steer and practice with him

I put a spin on my H18 last year and LOVE IT. whole new experience..
downwind becomes the best point of sail!

I am sure your skipper will let you know what your doing wrong in short order!

you can read and search youtube but nothing is going to replace TOW experience.

Spins work very differently than your main and jib (easing the line will actually increase your power where sheeting in reduces it) but it is not hard at all use.

The real challenge is to be so in tune with the helmsman that you know what to do without talking... and only tow and experience will get you there.

I found it was a good idea to serve the skipper breakfast that morning and to hide the cattle prod best as you can while on the water.

This is great advice. A fast up and down is very important to avoid lines getting tangled and a sail under the bow. Two or three pulls is all it should be, the third to tidy it up a bit. You will do fine Aaron you are a quick learner and have really pulled the H18 together very well.
