Nice little boat. But I learned the hard way when it's time to replace rigging replace it. I thought these were made from good stainless that would last a while but very wrong after losing two forestays.

Adding second shroud very easy but second forestay... more tricky, don't want to add second spreader bar but will it tweak the boat too much to add H16 style forestay wires to the nose? Are the 17 hulls not as well suited to the inward pull or that kind of rig? Remeber the cables would all be adjusted to share the weight.

You've got it all wrong. The answer is not to double up your standing rigging.

j/k and I know it's not right to have to do it but with having to store it in the water all the time and mast stepping being a pain double rigging would feel a little safer and also make adjustments easier. I know it needs replacing. The jackass who sold it to me gave me two sets of rigging but both were old and are NOT 1x19

Not only that I also had the problem where the rigging seems too long. The entire forestay is 18'6 while the shrouds are 18'11 like a H16. Here's how it rakes with the shrouds in the lowest adjustment (still loose) and the forestay connected from the upper tang directly into the roller furler at the bottom with no adjuster added.



The first forestay broke in a small squal with winds that weren't even quite 30 mph:



The second on the ocean with a 12-16 mph southeast prevailing wind broke in a worse location where it passes through the spreader mast fell 1/2 way down. I was able to run in to the beach and then derig it.

Now that's funny. A++ for effort and creativeness.

Couple of thoughts. Don't try to reinvent the wheel. Get the proper rigging. Rig it as it is designed. There is plenty of help here, so don't feel stupid asking stupid questions.

Next, stay away from the retro Nacra you are looking at. You are not ready for that boat, and it is a bad deal.

FYI, I have bought two boats out of the keys. I've got a picture of one of them out of that same channel/dock area. I will try to find it and send it to you.

that's the spirit!! but remember that 28mph winds will find the weak link in you standing rigging in a snap!
salty dog has a reasonable set, that will take a lot of guesswork out of it. it will be small tweeks after that...now sail it like you stole it!

The set of stays from Salty Dog are made to specs, meaning they are exactly the length for the H17 Sport, you have to ascertain whether the Sport was originally designed with a roller furler setup, if not, then order a custom forestay, original forestay length minus the length of the furler + swivel + pigtail.

Whenever buying a used salt water boat, first thing any seasoned sailor would do would be to replace the standing rigging, and when ordering the rigging, ask for clear shrouds, the coated shrouds trap salt water and accelerate the rust action.

I'd like to get some of that and just cut it to length and/or add furler to it.

So a little bit of research shows that the H17 Sport came out with the roller furling option, therefore, when you order the shrouds, stipulate that the order is for the Sport and check with them on the measurements. And sure you can call Murrays and have the shrouds made up with the Dyform cables, notice that they are a little more expensive though.

Just wondering if they're longevity with saltwater exposure is as good or better than non covered standard stainless 1x19's
