Positive feedback on vendors

We hear a lot about when deals go bad... how bout a thread on good transactions?
Good idea, no vendor is perfect. For instance I'm practically in love with Amazon but I'm sure many have had bad experiences ordering there.

some vendors who have proven (to me) to be GREAT and deserve my $'s and recommendation are

Murray's
Sunrise Yacht (tramps)
and PreSailedParts (from this site) was very good to deal with.
I was allowed to return an item because ... well i just didnt like it as much as i thought i would. Returned, no problem! - thats good customer service (imho)
Aquarius/ARC get a mention for expert service even though I didn't even buy directly of them. (used SC17)

My top performers are certainly
1) Aquarius - even though I have an older SC 15, they have always gotten me the needed part(s) (sometimes at lightning speed - and great advice
2) SLO Sails
3) Murrays
4) Dan Berger - member on this site and always gotten me great used parts and advice

I thought about it, but they haven't sent be any free swag lately, or even a Butterball Turkey at Christmas, so I just rated them TOP NOTCH.

NRS
Murrays
APS limited

Are the vendors I have used most, all with great service.

Had an issue or two with Murrays shipments over the years, but they went above and beyond to correct.

As already mention a couple times Aquarius/ARC. Can't say enough good things about those guys.

I've been really happy with Jill and Robbie AHPC Distributer/Fun in the Sun. From product support to taking us into their home on Christmas Day for a training camp. They really treat you like family, might be part of the reason there are so many on the C2/Viper these days!

smfinleyPhilip,

Yes they did and well deserved, and 6 out of 5 stars is impossible to achieve unless they have saved you from death, . . . and more than once, which they did (in Alaska). On second thought, so did a Ruger .44 Mag with Garrett loads, but that's definitely not related to sailing. On third thought, so did my G Loomis, but that doesn't apply to sailing either (unless you whip your worthless crew with a fly rod). So yes, NRS is over the top.

BTW Andrew, Trojan is involved with sailing. You would know that if you owned a Nacra. icon_wink

John, all you ever do is rant about how gorgeous the southern bells are in Auburn. You only get 3 stars because you never send me swag and you are a high maintenance buyer (like some of the others here). I still sent you a turkey, but shipped it COD (Lee told me only COD for you. Take it up with him, should be thawed my now) Oink Oink prost

Robbie is one of the nicest guys on the water and one amazing sailor

I highly recommend taking a course with him if you want to improve your sailing
Quote Robbie AHPC Distributer/Fun in the Sun
I second Murray's. For foreign sailors, where a tiny item will automatically attract a standard shipping charge, give them a personal call. I stopped by Carpenteria a couple of years ago, & they told me to just phone for envelope sized stuff & they could drop it in the mail for a couple of bucks.
Salty Dog has been good
Sailing Services in Florida were very pleasant to deal with.
For any Canadian sailors around the GTA, don't forget about Sobstadt Sail in Barrie. The owner won a gold medal, sailing Tornadoes, in the Olympics. He knows a bit about Cats. They have a good sail loft, & better prices & knowledge than West Marine.

Have been doing this cat sailing thing since 1989, crap I am old.

I have been getting Hobie parts from Jim Sohn at the Sailing center in Des Moines IA for almost that long. He has forgotten more about hobie than most people know.

Since having the Nacra I have been getting parts from Rick Bliss at New England Catamarans.

The reason I use both of these guys is very simple. THEY KNOW THEIR STUFF. If I pay a small premium for that fine, to me it is much better to get the right part the first time than to have a bunch of stuff (ok more stuff) laying around.

When I rigged the 5.5 with the soft spin it had a hooter so the tang was fixed. There was no 'off the shelf' kite that was right for the boat. Skip Elliot called me personally and made a kite that fit and works fantastic and for the same money as an off the shelf kite which is what I tried the first time, no restocking no issues and he shipped it fast, as in the next day. Earned my business for life.

These three guys have more experience than just about anyone I know. Jim has been multiple Hobie 18 national champ. Rick has won the Worrell 1000 several times. And Skip is well Skip, if you do not know who he is or what he has done for cat sailing you should learn.

I have had good luck with Murrays but usually just get the stuff from one of the above even if it drop ships or takes an extra day.

This is just my experience, but I can call any one of these guys on a weekend and get help. That is priceless and they all earned it. JMHO YMMV RIcardo.

made my second order to New Glass 2 on friday
Got my product tuesday

Last time i ordered from them they returned $4 of my $10 in shipping (without being asked to do so).

This time I also got the pre-cleaner. When someone told me that was a waste and i could use denatured alcohol and have the same results... i did the math. The pre treat added $5 to my order (since i got a "kit")... the same amount of denatured alcohol is about $20.

The invoice and instructions give the email and phone number of the vendor in-case you have questions or problems.

Thumbs up for a great product and even better customer service!

I want to give big ups to sunrise tramps and whirlwind sails... the sunrise tramp is damn well made...better than any other tramp I have seen. sure it cost over 400$ but in the long run its worth it. chip @ whirlwind was easy to deal with also...really pleased to drop some cash with these folks. my new sails rock! couldn't believe the difference they made, talk about putting a 400 in the vega!!!

I've been buying and selling stuff on here for years and I must say, I've never had a bad experience. The only two that I have even heard of was MN3s experience with SLO, which really does sound like a 1 off problem with that company and the one Chris Hilliard identified. The latest one that is showing up I don't think was actually a problem just a disgruntled person who didn't realize what they were buying. I'm hoping that we don't see too many more issues in the future. Like I said my experience with this site and the people who buy and sell on it has been overwhelmingly positive and helpful!!

just ordered another Sunrise tramp monday. the tramp was showing it's 1000 times sailing.

my tramp got ripped when i had 180 crew and didn't tell him not to put all 180 right on the trackbolt.
Great luck on previous parts found on this site.
