Am looking at H18's (Magnum especially) for sale around my area (New England). A friend advises to stay away from them because it's difficult to find parts (although agrees they are a blast to sail).
Your friend is very wrong. You could build a boat from scratch with all the parts that are available for an 18. It was my second choice for a boat. I ended up with a Prindle 18, also a discontinued model. I couldn't be happier. Hobie 18s rock.
Where in NE are you?

No truth at all that it's hard to find Hobie 18 parts, unless you are specifically talking about the wings, which don't really have any parts.
The Hobie 18 was one of the biggest selling beachcats ever, so there are a lot of new and used parts for sale. The only way you could say they were hard to find is if by "hard" you meant harder than a Hobie 16, the biggest selling beachcat of all time.
