like duly, i'm putting a 400 in the vega! chip buck made these for me. I wanted color and I wanted sails that would last more than a few seasons. now, the test sail...hope it makes it wildly unstable ,just the way I like it!

i'm ready for the challenge! the old sails are 35 yrs old...they are still in good shape and stuff but I want to try and tear the hulls off of the boat and the old sails just won't do it.

Very nice.. scratch that XX WICKED AWESOME... the passive and mellow PBR get's some ANGRY SAILS.

I need to finish my upgrades to DouBl3tIme and get her back on the beach!

- dyneema trap lines (custom spliced by moi.. a bling thing)
- rear crossbar reenforcement plates and biax fiber
- biax fiber under front crossbars
- all alu mast (loose the noodle comptip)
- recut squaretop ( she's too flat up top.. ha ha... PUN! )

around 1800 bucks for sails, battens, sail bag, telltales..i bought a new sunrise tramp also. I know, 2200 bucks on a 500$ boat? I love the blueribbon, easy set up, reliable, cheap parts, and I know how to fix anything on it now. now i'm set, until I rip off a hull, then i'll bolt another on and keep going!

no hank, gonna paint this spring...got the round cat island race oct 5, didn't have time...I did wax/buff the boat today(did injection repairs yesterday) and am about to put on the new tramp...you should get some beers and come by after work today and help me! we should go sailing tomorrow...

just waiting on the battens to make it...if they don't make it soon then I wacking some old ones!

Better than paying 2200 for a boat thats worth 1000 like i did by the time i replaced my lemon haha...its all good though i have extra everything except the baf starboard hull. I agree between all the extras i have, cheap parts and a simple reliable platform that you can DIY parts for, it appears this boat will last a while. I have two sets of sails so itll be a while before i drop the cash on a squaretop. Im looking foreward to hear how it sails with the upgrade

ok, took the boat out the Friday before ts Karen...WOW!!! new,modern, sails are WAY more powerful than I thought! now I will be able to fly a hull in 10mph winds, couldn't even trim the main to fly tells with my buddy on the wire and my 245lb azz...

so powerful, a feeder band caught us trying to make shore and violently pitchpoled us! first time I flipped a boat since Reagan was in office...anyways, here are some pics from the repairs(snapped tiller crossbar and punched hole in transom).

WOW!!! new,modern, sails are WAY more powerful than I thought!

Anyone else looking to turbo-ize their stock boats with high-power pentax squaretop sails should take note. It's good to remember that almost all beachcats are over-powered by factory design. Brand new stock sails are much more powerful than 20-30 year old sails, and putting modern sails on an older design is a huge power boost that not everyone needs.

Caused quite the obstruction at A-Mark.

Posted it as an example of being over-powered, gusty day and I was solo, even someone my size can have more power than needed.

nothing wrong with using the stock design with modern cloths (although i still would recommend a square top to most sailors that have experience).

If you turbo charge your boat ... you need to step up your game for sure.
I think 90% of my flips could be avoided if i reacted differently (the other 10% are gear failures), but now i know... (downhaul, outhaul, travel out, and be ready to pinch or quickly head up into a gust to avoid flipping)

and ya may swim more .. but you get launched in the water much faster than before - much more fantastic of a capsize !

I love it! makes the boat 1000x more fun... I used to only get my kicks when it was blowin' but now this makes all those 10-12kt days that much more fun. it's a little unnerving to look at the mast bend now but I got used to it. it's like beefing up your grandma's oldsmobile and finding out you need brakes! talk about a thrill ride. even going high to the wind, I traveled out a good foot and still could not come close to flying the main tells. we took a gps but my crew hasn't sent me the results yet. yes it is way more power than you need...yes this thing could get expensive...but learning the nuances of the new technology on the old gal has fueled my addiction. not thinking spin yet, would need spreaders for sure, but love the glut of power the new sails give...after watching the Americas cup, those guys just take the fastest point of sail and tack everywhere...they all but gave up all the bigger headsails. now to mount foils...

I see now, hard to see that pic on my phone, I thought the wings were the mast/main.

I had many moments like that on the turbo i20, built to race in 4-8kts as is typical in this area, but things happened really fast in 15-20!

had a chance to test the new sails here lately...unreal power in all winds! makes a calm day more fun...makes a windy day challenging . the control over the sail shape is nice. the response to a puff is instant, you feel the mast jump and your gone...the old sails felt like a 4 cylinder, the new ones like a full blown V8. learning to fully utilize these puppys is gonna be fun!
