new guy .

i bought a hobie 16 about 10 years ago sailed it once with some help from a guy who had one .
next time i tried to rig the mast myself by muscling it up end up braking the mast link but didnt hurt the mast and parked it ever since .
2 years ago i bought a 23 ft spirit and joined cypermort yacht club i sail at least a few days every month .

i want to rehab my hobie and take it over to gulf port and sail out to ship island and cat island in the spring .

Sounds like a good plan. Any specific questions?

the hobie 16 is a good learner cat

but as you found out it is really a 2 person boat

esp. if you are a beginner

try to fix it and sail it again with someone who knows the boats

and slowly build up your knowledge of the boat before taking it out to islands solo or with non-cat sailors
i sail my 23 ft solo 99% of the time , i will be sailing the hobie in vermilion bay until i get it under control .
i will be doing repairs from all those years of sitting for a while .
i never got around to get the title done on it so that will be one of my first hurdles
i pulled the sails out of the case they look great .
