So I took the rear beam off my N5.2 to replace the tramp and noticed these small straps attached to the hulls under the beams. The front beam has a small fork shaped piece that seems to act as a spreader stop but the rear beam does not have the fork piece.




My question is what does this straps do other than act as a stop for the fork piece to bump up against?
I did notice the hulls have some spider cracks below the beam pockets behind the front beam straps.

Any clues ?

Correct. They are not on the rear beam to allow hull alignment

My 5.7 did not have the "forks" on the rear beam, but both 5.2's & the 5.0 did. The fork is actually the same piece as is near the top of the mast. It is what you hook the slug on the wire halyard onto.
I squared the boat, then riveted them on.
Both older Nacra manuals reference the stops on the rear beam, & say to butt them against the tang on the hull.


I always thought the front one was to prevent the V brace bar from damaging the hull, & the rear ones to prevent "creep", the hulls moving inwards.
Not sure what year they eliminated them, the 5.9 is an '88 & has them.

I have figured out that they do serve a purposes by acting as stops for the hull alinement.

since I have deleted the center beam I am racking the hulls to get them square and will be riveting the beam straps once everything is squared up.
