Prindle 18 - Little water getting in.....

I am talking about only a cup or so after a day of sailing but my other hull stays bone dry. Since I can't leave well enough alone, I went on a search for the leaky spot. I thing I found it. It appears that water may seep in at the front crossbar. So the question is, should I care? I just placed some silicone at joint between the crossbar and hull, hoping that it will at least deflect that water. I do not want to take it apart right now. I attached a pic of the inside, it looks to be in decent shape. Any thoughts? Is it fairly common to have it seep in here? Thanks Pete

Sounds like a end-o-season repair to me. Dry it out, get rid of all that silicone, and inject some epoxy. You might consider bedding down the crossbar in 3M 4200 , Sickaflex, or some other less than permanent bedding compound.

Peter, Put the silicone on your finger tip & run it all along underside the lip (hull/deck seal). Pinholes here can amount to a cup in moderate windv sailing. Pete
many cats actually have breather holes to let pressure that build up out
Thanks guys. We had a great day, these were the conditions leading to a bit of water..........

It is common on Prindles, I usually do as you did, put a thin bead of silicone between crossbar and hull, wet finger and smooth it out. The P15 I had, removed crossbars and cleaned out years of crud accumulation, reseated, and sealed entire area of crossbar/hull seat as above.

Pete, is running the silicone on the lip better than a than layer of epoxy?

Yes, it takes 3 minutes and cost about $.30. Do it just before your next time out & check after... Pete
