Prindle 18 jib halyard setup question.

I purchased a 1979 Prindle 18 (Hull # 346) this summer, and absolutely love it.

It needed a new trampoline and line kit, which I purchased at Slo Sails and canvas (Great vendor, btw! They requested I send a pic of the trampoline, and it's now the pic on their site) http://www.slosailandcanv…18-Catamaran-Mesh/Detail. Now feels like a brand new boat!

Coming form various mono-hulls and windsurfing, it truly provides the best of both worlds.

I do have one question: How does one properly rig a Prindle 18 Jib Halyard?

I sort of got it working, but am confused on how to rig it properly. I checked out the Prindle manual at http://utsailing.org/wp-c…13/07/Prindle_Manual.pdf but it's not clear on where the halyard is meant to be led, or how the hook is fed through the locking ring.

You have a 2 piece halyard connected with sister clips. Run the halyard thru the ring, then thru the short pigtail of upper forestay & back down thru the ring. Now attach head of jib to shackle above hook, put the halyard inside the zipper & around the lower forestay. With your third hand pull the halyard to raise sail as you close the zipper & feed sail. When sail is near top, careful up & down pull to hook the ring. Tie downhaul line immediately, unhook lower rope halyard via sister clips & close the zipper. I prefer to stow 1/2 halyard ashore as if you put in pocket with righting line & capsize, it may pull out into water. Now spend the next three days pondering this 3 handed system to invent a better way! Pete
Thanks for the quick reply! I'll try that next time, and make sure to bring my 3rd hand.

Pete, I just got off the lake with Dave on his Prindle 18. What a rush! We were getting 15-20 mph swirling gusts all afternoon and were pretty much up on one most the time. My hands and arms are throbbing in pain from all the sheeting, hiking, movement on board but wow what a wickedly great time!

Dave was showing me how to rig the Prindle and it is a different animal but it works. Someone should really do a youtube video on it. icon_smile

quick tip on the Prindle jib, the SS ring must face the mast, and the open end of the "S" hook must also face the mast.

It helps that when hooking the shackle with the hook to the sails you make sure the hook faces toward the back of the boat. That said when rigging the ring should also be toward the back of the boat. So in the picture in the post above the right side the picture would be toward the back of the boat.
