Spraying gelcoat

Anybody here sprayed gel-coat?We are refurbing the B-lion and got 2 gallons of epoxy swimming pool coating with the boat.I am a bit leary of using the pool paint as I feel it may not harden enough.I was wondering if you could keep layering the gel-coat rather than waiting for it to dry, sand and then apply another coat

As for the gelcoat drying between coat. Buy laminating gelcoat. It won't fully cure and will remain tacky so you will not have to sand between coat. Laminating gelcoat doesn't have wax in it. The polyester resin doesn't fully cure in presence of air. They add wax in it that migrate to the surface making an air barrier so the resin fully cure. Use ordinary gelcoat (with wax) for the last coat. This one will fully cure.

Epoxy will chalk out and degrade when exposed to sunlight. If you epoxy your boat you will need to finish it with gel coat or linear polyurethane to achieve any resistance to sunlight.

Any ideas on how long the epoxy will take to chalk out

Polyester does't stick well to epoxy. Some argue you can do this, but it is not ideal. I would just use gel-coat as a paint, and not to bother with epoxy.

Here is a good resource on gel-coat

Went with the epoxy on the deck ,during the last week the temps were up around 80.Rolled it on and let it bake in the shop worked out great, gloss paint always shows you prep flaws!hardened up nicely to be able to sand and recoat a couple of days later.Going to do the hulls tomorrow it is a little cooler so should have more time to finish

I subscribed to this pearl of wisdom for years when I spray gelcoat but I found a YouTube video that does an excellent job on performing experiments to see if this is true. You can find the video at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GwS4YgoGFm8.
Now I am not worried about spraying gelcoat over epoxy repairs.
Well I did the hulls with the epoxy paint, two coats let it harden for 10 days then color sanded the hulls down to 2000 wet and dry.Looks good going to buff it in a couple of days
