Just Picked up a Nacra 5.2 and here are some pictures. I have a bit of work ahead of me if I decide to get this back in the water.



Some of this I have never seen before. Old Nacra mast base ball, no pivmatic rudder system, crack in hull a few of the challenges.

That should come together nicely! I fixed a crack in my keel like that a few weeks ago, it wasn't nearly as difficult as I thought.

The further I get into this boat the closer I am to calling it a parts boat and scrapping it. Found a major soft spot today under a small crack on the starboard hull just in front of the forward crossbar. I have scrapped Hobie 16s for much less damage but am not sure about the Nacra.

A soft spot on a 1976 5.2 is different than on a hobie 16. IT doesn't have a foam sandwich construction, so it wouldn't be delamination. If you do have an actual soft spot then it would be a structural issue with the fiberglass. i.e. the fiberglass in that location is busted up and cracked throughout. YOu would need to cut out the soft spot and reglass. Now keep in mind that the non foam sandwich nacra's tend to 'oil can' on the sides of the hulls and the decks. They arent too stiff. If you push on the hull and it pops in and out across the full hull without too much crackling then it might just be oil canning. If it really is a major soft spot where it got smashed then that is major surgery on the hull and probably isn't worth it for resale. You can get more for the parts.

I picked up a 5.2 with similar issues, no pivmatics but it did have a set of clamcleats on the tillers instead. Have ordered the new style Clamcleat Auto-Release Racing Mini CL257 from Murrays



will let u know how those work out. So far, I have replaced the tramp, almost every line, and every quick-release pin, PO had these pins on sidestays, forestay and boom, I have about 8 of these pins now. I did away with the bungees on the rudders, used 1/4" stayset instead and the clamcleat on top of the tiller arm to hold rudder, holds them nice and high too, will mount the new style pivmatics on the bottom of the tiller arm when they arrive. PO also did not have a decent mainsheet setup, had the 6;1 lower high profile blocks, but a double and a single upper block which does not work, so a quick text to Pete Begle and used triple upper is on its way. The gelcoat has faded over the years to the point where the black undercoat is showing, kinda like the old patina, so will put a few layers of clearcoat on and keep its old look, like an old classic car with the rust patina, hope to have this N5.2 ready for the Muddy Waters Regatta to be held at Lake Carlyle October 2-4

Thanks Wolfman, I will double check the hull tomorrow. I did not realize the older Nacras were that springy.

Just checked out the CL257 Clamcleat Auto-Release Racing Mini, all I can say is wow. This is a great replacement for the pivmatic. I am now considering ordering some for my 5.0. Is this new? Definitely post some pictures when you get them installed.

Good news, no crackling so the hull is repairable without to much work. I have not had a winter project boat for awhile but looks like this is gonna be it.
