Anybody know this guy? A homemade gaff rigged boomless cat. My friend took this shot of him at Twin Harbor on Santa Cruz Island, and I also found a video of the boat landing at Ledbetter in Santa Barbara.

Find him & sell him some Cat Trax, that was a serious amount of manpower to move that up the beach.

It certainly looks heavy. One of the most challenging chores on the north shore of Santa Cruz Island is getting the boat beached. Most of the beaches are rocks, and stair stepped. (The photo of the boat is a good example). He'd only have him and his crew at the island, and beach wheels are not practical to carry. I use short sections of ABS pipe. I notice in the picture they never got the boat much over the tideline. That also works, but you've got to time the tides and arrive on time,

It looks like a James Wharram Tiki 21, there are a couple of them up here.

It is still the smallest Cat to circumnavigate the world.
They weigh up to 800lb, depending on how the builder outfits the deck/living space.
Wharram has been building Cats since the 50's, that gaff rig is a signature style.
They build them up to 63', not exactly a BeachCat, but they are very well respected, & wharram has been building & designing offshore Cats longer than anyone, including Hobie.

That definitely looks like this boat. Would love to touch base with the guy and see how his trip went. There are some beaches out there where, depending on the tide, may be impossible to beach this boat on. Stair stepped rocks that took every ounce of energy of myself and my crew on the count of three to even budge the Hobie 18. I'd be curious if he carries an anchor. I've always carried one on crossings to provide the alternative of anchoring and swimming in, although I've never had to do it.

cool, Wharram has a website where you order designs for their popular designs for DIY cat project builds based on your time/$$$ commitments and need for size etc. Seems they are built after Polynesian designs. Will have to wait until retirement gets closer for me.

From the video, it looked like the biggest hurtle to beaching/dragging the boat is the rudder/skeg which appears to extend below the bottom of the hull and dig into the sand, hence making carryingthe boat the only option.
