Ever wanted to do a major distance race?

This year's Florida 300 is gearing up to be epic, May 17-21, 2016.

Not only is it now really the Florida 300+ because we've added another leg and the course is now five days with the start at Islamorada and finish at Daytona Beach, but there are already 10 or more boats committed (max 20) and more sponsorships than ever before for the Florida 300 or Tybee 500.

One of the cool sponsors is Ocean Deck Beach Club in Daytona Beach where the teams will party on Sunday after the Saturday finish.

So I know some of you have always wanted to do something like this, what will it take to get you on the water?

If you have questions about participating in something like this I'd be glad to answer, anything I don't know I can get you the scoop.

I'll be traveling along with the race reporting day-to-day here on the site as well as updating the event Facebook Page and doing some photography.

The Florida 300 teams each thank Damon for his support and efforts in this race. The best photo documentation of this event has come from Damon and without those hundreds of images some of the best memories would be lost. "Oh shit moments" sometimes become the best stories of the day, without someone like Damon taking candid shots the moments are lost.

Its hard to appreciate just how difficult it can be to keep up with these boats when the breeze is on. The ground crews have to hustle through traffic, do some shopping and get wheels to the beach before us. This type of sailing is the pure Nirvana for some of us and could not be done without the folks chasing us up the beach.

Thank you to Damon, thebeachcats.com and everyone who supports this event. Having said that, if you enjoy cat sailing, and like a challenge, you are missing a life time adventure. I and all teams invite you to join the race. This year will be epic. If you have doubts or questions, bring them.

Thanks Dick, looking forward to being with you on the beach again this year. Those "OH ****" moments make the best pictures!

I hope you and some of the other teams will start hanging around here. There is a large number of beachcat sailors poised to enter the "spin boat" world and we need more active members experienced in these awesome modern beachcats.
