I am going to look at a 1998 NACRA 6.0 this weekend. I have been sailing a Prindle 18 for years and am looking for a larger cat that can handle more crew weight and rougher water. Any known problems with this boat or things that I should specifically look at ? Anyone with any experience with the NACRA 6.0 and thoughts regarding it. Thanks, Scott
I never had a Nacra 6, but I had a Mystere 6.0XL (20' X 10'), and still have an N5.7
The 20' boat was awesome in rough water. It is only 1' longer than the N5.7, but the much bigger hulls rode the waves much better. It was designed for spin, lots of volume up front.
It was a handful to solo, but if I had strong crew all the time it would be my #1 boat.

while you have to search for info on the 6.0 it is still a good project. i have had mine for about a onth and have seriously been refurbishing the boat.
i have a self tacking jib on the way and just about have everything i need for a spinnaker.
i'm still trying to figure all the blocks on the bow foiler but hopefully a picture will show it's ugly head for me to look at.
when i bought the boat i was told the boat would bury the bows. i haven't noticed that. we have taken her out only a couple of times.
check your diamond wires[the long ones and any other stainless rigging on your craft. i found a bad diamond and am presently waiting for it to arrive.
Is this the one posted here or one you are looking at locally to you? I'm looking to upgrade/upsize as well and this is a good option. I'd be interested in taking advantage of any research you've done. I'm on the left coast and there seems to be very little catamaran activity.

Its the one posted on this site from Wisconsin. Have gotten assembly manuals to assist in looking at and getting the rigging right. Just need to go out and check it out structurally and look at the sails. Hopefully have a new boat this Saturday.
That is one serious drive to get a boat.. but that price is well worth it... Good luck.. you'll be very happy with it when you're doing a screaming broad reach..
It is too long of a drive for me, especially out and back. Flying out on the wonderful "Spirit" airline where they charge you if you want to wear clothes on the plane (among other things). Will get it U-shipped to me if it looks okay.
Well....how did the trip go? I'm asking because I'm going to want to pick your brain to look at one close to the left coast than Wisconsin. I'm not ashamed to use someone else's wisdom.

To quote my wife "I told you not to go". The people there were nice but the reason I went is that they knew nothing about the boat. The only mainsail was mylar and looked to be in good shape except for the 4 foot and 2 foot tears. Despite picture with jib furled, there was no roller furler. Had larger inspection port that was put it near transom that was cupped and cover would not screw down on it. Sail box on trailer leaked and all sails inside were wet. With all this and cost to ship did not get the boat. Helped them dry out the sails and advised to store in a dry place. Rice Lake Wisconsin was not and will not be on my bucket list.
I'm headed out to take a look at that one this weekend. The pictures look good. There has been some modifications back and forth to different types of rigging but the owner seems to know what he is doing so I'm hoping for the best. It's a lot closer than Wisconsin...

No guts, no glory, this time it didn't work out. But the worst part is looking at the 6.0 made me want a new (used) boat even more and I have thought maybe I should have just got it and done the repairs. Would definitely consider a Prindle 19 and would love to find a Mystere 6.0. If anyone is selling or sees any would love to get the info.
Scott here is your new boat less than 2 hours away. I will take my finders fee in beer.
Wait aluminum trailer and beach wheels. Why am I not getting it?

The prices of the Inter / NACRA 20 are dropping. There a four of them for sale on the west coat, five years ago you we're lucky to even find one. I sold mine then because I was approached with the right offer... it was a seller's market then, not now... Put the impulse on hold for a bit and save up some more sheckles... you wont regret it if you do...
Hahaha, the seller of that Prindle 19 states that, "after 3 hours of sailing, the starboard hull had maybe 2 cups of water in it and the right none". Nice.

Why not?
The boat looks to be in very good condition.
I have an '84 Hobie Magnum. So far I have sailed it 41 days this season, & I have never pulled the drain plugs. It got a bit of water from rain when I left the hatch covers open, but I can sail for days in moderate conditions & only see a shot glass or two in either hull.

I will tact up wind to get a screaming broad reach on my Classic 18 which has me burring the hull a few times up to the main beam... When I get back to the beach, I will always drain more water out of that hull than the other... 2 cups from a boat with a centerboard/dagger-board well... meh!!! 2 quarts.. OK "Houston we have problem!"
I guess I have to explain. The starboard hull IS the right hull. So, read what the seller was stating. The starboard hull had maybe 2 cups of water in it and the right none. Get it now????
For what it's worth, I sailed my 1984 H16 two days over Labor Day weekend and didn't have a drop of water in either hulls.

My NACRA 5.7 was collecting so much water in the hulls last fall, I had to come in after 20 minutes to drain gallons from each side. Since the restoration, no water, but if a hull takes on water, it's not the end of the world, it just means too much fun (or years) hitting the beach.
That Prindle 19 looks like a very sleek and fast cat for sure.
My point was that I was wondering if the seller knew the starboard side from the port side, not about water intrusion.

The wind was light, what I would call light anyway, cruised pretty well at times and was making a wake behind the boat, no hull flying though, but the boat did stay moored over night in deep water and didn't have any issues with water intrusion. I think that's pretty good for a 32 year old boat.
And now for something completely different...

JohnES, I would have to guess Russell Mills perhaps? I lived in Alex City for a while, moved there in 1993. My mother grew up there and I had family there also. My Grandparents had a cabin on Lake Martin which we still have and that is where I sail. I would agree that no one up here seems interested in sailing. There is the Dixie Sailing club down around Kowaligia though, may have to join up with them. Lots of wave runners and ski boats everywhere also, makes for a lot of head turning, watching out, and defensive sailing. Hoping to get back out on the water soon though now that the crowds should be thinned out and the water level has dropped a little. Our place is on a pretty nice sized bay but I'd like to get out in the main part of the lake.

I never worked at Russell, but had a relative or two that did work there. My Grandparents worked at Avondale for many many years and retired from there in the early 80's.
Do you still live in the area?

No, didn't live there...
I had worked for Champion where I was the VP Sales Western Region... Russell had hired me away to get into or should I say serious about the college bookstore business. They had set up a whole new division and a new facility in Gadston.. use to spend my time between Alex City and there. Made a few trips to Huntsville, and to the Ft. Benning School For Boys... friend from HS was stationed there.
My last trip to Alex City was 1996... I resigned in 1997... they told me I needed to move there to be a better manager... no thanks, not that Alabama isn't nice, its just as the song says, "wish they all could be California girls"
I make it out the way... I'll look you up, maybe I can finally get out on Lake Martin on a cat
