This is pretty interesting, it should go very cheap but could be expensive to get sailing again. Anyone know the story or whose boat this was?

One big advantage a buyer/restorer would have is that there are soon to be a LOT of Nacra 17 spare parts and used sails available for the Nacra 17 since the entire 300+ existing boats are being replaced or upgraded to the new MKII version.

This one would might never be a competitive class boat again but it's still a carbon fiber high tech boat. Fix the big hole in the hull, buy a bunch of used equipment and sails, and tear up your local waters.

Someone really determined could buy the soon-to-be-available upgrade kit from Nacra and build the boat as an actual class legal MKII Foiler for comparatively cheap. The area where this boat has a hole is the same area that gets rebuilt completely during the upgrade. The parts that are missing are mostly included in the kit.

The Nacra proposal for upgrading the boats listed an upgrade kit for 6,400 Euros that included.

UPGRADE KIT EXISTING BOAT
  • COMPOSITE PARTS
    • DEK & DAGGERBOARDS CASE
    • HULL REINFORCEMENT- PARTS & CARBON CLOTH
    • TRANSOM REINFORCEMENTS PARTS & CARBON CLOTH
  • PROGRIP
  • TEMPLATES & MANUAL
  • RAKE TRIMKIT INCL UPPER & LOWER BEARING, LINES, BITS & PIECES
  • RUDDER LOWER CASTING INCLUDING LOWER &
  • UPPER PINTELS
  • T RUDDER BLADES
  • Z DAGGERBOARDS
  • SPINNAKER

Hmm..intriguing in many ways, not in others.

First, the boats aren't carbon. They have carbon reinforcements in some areas, but are otherwise glass. You can see that pretty clearly even in the highly loaded daggerboard well section its primarily glass from the factory. Anyone bidding on this should get a real VIN and check the published Nacra change log for the 17.

Second, an Olympic hopeful decided this boat wasn't worth fixing. That probably means it isn't worth fixing.

Third, no sails, though that is a solvable problem.

Fourth, Nacra hasn't said exactly what they are going to do on upgrading these boats. I suspect that upgrade kit won't actually see the light of day, instead they are focusing more on conversion packages, i.e replacement platforms + 1x aluminum mast so you can sell your used platform with a mast and set of practice sails to a club racer. Really makes sense on Nacras part as it eliminates questionable modifications to an Olympic boat and gets the older boats and their ? history out of the spotlight.

What you are bidding on is a set of good C boards, rudder blades and stocks (compatible with a variety of Nacra products), Nacra 17 beams and the big one, a high quality Hall spars built carbon mast. It may make sense if Nacra will sell you new Mk. 2 hulls and foils, which they are probably reluctant to do, but maybe.

True, had a brain fart on that one.

Anyone interested needs to look at it in person to see what is really there. The Curved daggers are shown in the assembled picture but not in the pictures where it's disassembled on the trailer. The listing just says "check it out for yourself as to what is included".

turn it into a towable beer station
Having purchased a few salvage boats, they tend to be salvage for a reason. Many of the good parts tend to get "left" in the previous owners garage. To me it appears that boat is not being sold by the insurance company. I am guessing the seller (website is simply a broker) bought it from the insurance company for beans and is flipping it.

Some of the N17s had some real issues, that might also be one of the problem masts (wondering why it was left with the boat)

I do not see any standing rigging, mast rigging, running rigging, trapeze rigging, or any sails. That is a serious amount in $$ that is not included. The curved boards also appear missing now. In good shape these boats are not selling well, they seem to have trouble bringing $13k.

Well, it certainly breaks down into lots of pieces parts!!!! Wonder what kind of beach wheels those are? They don't look as nice as Cat Traxx.

Those are eurotrax, auctually pretty nice. I have had a few sets. They seem to be a little lighter than the sailcraft product.

Mast has a Hall sticker on it in the photos, so not one of the problem masts (Nacra cut those up IIRC). If its still in the lot, you'll end up with a good mast for a song potentially.

Likely the original owner took a complete write-off on the boat and thus was forced to hand the bits over to a salvage company. I guess they decided that buying back from the salvage company wasn't worth their time or money.

The value of the Nacra 17 has plummeted primarily because there are few events being sailed on the old platforms and the new boats are a completely different build in all carbon with higher quality promised.
I see now that some of the pics look strerched, looked like the tires on the beach wheels were not as fat as Cat Traxx.

in one of the photos is says 'NED 040' on the beach wheels.

that would point to this Dutch team.
