Sail GP NYC June 21 and 22

Anyone planning to go to this?

https://sailgp.com/races/new-york/event-overview/

Tough decision to either go see these guys, or go out on the water myself.

I will be in the nyc area the week before
CRAP
i would go to that in a heart beat

PS you can sail anytime - you can't see these guys anytime
Too bad about the timing. It would be a fun event to attend with several cat sailors.

went before, really worth it-Malcolm Stitt, Tornado and other crafts ,biked down from pawling ny to the Battery and got the best shots with his camera- I plan to see prelims fri and depending on the weather(its been so nasty so far in the northeast that we havent put our cats in the water yet! They are p0werwashed etc but its been too cold to put our mushroom moorings out in the Great South Bay)sail my own cats(Dart 18 & Nacra 5.5) on Sat or watch the big guys
Finished watching the SF event on YouTube. Those things go faster on water than my DN goes on ice!

Makes me really want to go to NY.

Went over to Battery Park at lunch yesterday. The USA team boat was moored 50 feet from the dock. Holy cow! It's way wider than the Tornado is long!

A bunch of us are headed in for Friday's races. Not sure if we are going out on the spectator boats or not. View from the park should be awesome.

Apparently, they will stream it live here:

I'm gonna get the app on my iPad too, like the AmericasCup.

The Cup races sucked at that venue though. Terrible wind conditions.

A gust of 37 flipped HER. Slingsby said he couldn't recall tougher conditions on day 1.

SailGP arrived in Europe this weekend with a condensed day of wild racing in "fruity" conditions (as they say there). 22-30kn winds and big chop. They cancelled the first day due to gales in the +30s.

So it was a day packed with high-speed pitchpoles, penalties and capsizes, starting in the first race. They are beginning to need seat belts and airbags on these 50' monsters. Crew was flying everywhere.

Boats broke the 50kn speed barrier for the first time (and lots of parts) as they tried to survive the races- and keep up with the flawless Aussies. One of the teams reached 52kn on their boat, which has a 53kn theoretical top speed.

You are gonna want to watch this one,..

Sailing was cancelled the day before due to high winds

pretty wild day
it was crazy to see 3 boats have major bow stuff at the same spot (when US went swimming)
