Prindle 18 Hull Material

Finally getting this ol’ boat the tic it’s been waiting for. Daughter and I are going to “social distance” and learn some fiberglass at the same time...

This project will take care of hull delamination and a transom repair.

I used the drill-n-fill method on a Hobie 16 in the past, but would like to replace some core material this time to remedy curiosity and learn something from my mistakes....

This boat has a foam core. Anyone know what was used for manufacture and recommend a replacement material. Looks like it might be a half-inch urethane foam sheet, but my expertise is starting from zero!

Thanks for any recommendations!

These guys are good. Not a source for sheet foam apparently.

If in doubt or unsure, you can go with a higher grade/strength. All of my F25C core replacement done with Corecell. Try or keep an eye on Noah's Corecell discount bin: http://www.noahsmarine.com/corecell/

Don't feel bad about not using foam core replacement for small jobs. There is plenty of floatation in your Prindle, and the decks are solid fiberglass.

I would look into using Divinycell foam for core replacement. Probably the “scored” version if you need to conform to significant curvature.

Thanks for the info! I’m sure it would be fine to leave out some foam, or even re-attach to the old foam. Just thinking I’ll cut and replace some for education and curiosity. The foam piece I cut out is between 1/4 and 1/2 inch thickness. My plan is to buy 1/4 inch and build up, however does the foam shrink with age and deterioration? Undecided if I should buy quarter or half-inch foam and which type foam to try....

Thanks for your inputs!
