Mounting beach wheels to trailer

I am using these quick release truss clamps designed for 2” aluminum tube: https://www.globaltruss.com/mini%20360%20qr to mount Cat Trax beach wheels on my trailer. The clamps about $10 each.
I swapped the supplied wing nuts for stainless steel 10mm Nyloc nuts and added some velcro straps for peace of mind. So far this summer, they have been secure and working out well in the 150 miles of travel.

A really great idea!

Many years ago, I did a short stint in the agricultural sector. There was an old Japanese man that lived next to the farm who made a living doing metal fabrication for local farmers. I got the idea that he could make me a mount for my beach wheels. I was racing an H16 at the time.

I brought my trailer and wheels to him and tried to explain what I needed with motions as the guy spoke very little English.

I still have it today, just as a conversation piece.

The guy just worked with what he knew. You are looking at the world's strongest beach wheel mount, made of 1/4 plate steel. When I closed the hasp on this sucker it sounded like one of the vault doors closing in the opening credits of "Get Smart".

Bill,

Thanks for posting the details... I love the story and it is a great bit of fabrication knowledge to make that work!

is this for the Space Shuttle wheels?

JK -but this is great. ZERO chance of this failing, even if you drive into a volcano

Cool idea, I love how fast these could make the load and unloading.

$3
available in many colors - and everywhere
And slips loose while driving down the highway, takes 10min to tie etc. The clamps are an easy solution, if your trailer has a place for them.
i was just teasin' but "takes 10min to tie "?? lol and then comes loose ?

the clamps look pretty good

i mean i have never had a set of wheels slip off or come untied but sure, if you prefer more hardware on your setup - and see it as a time saver - it's all good w me

That one won't fit CatTrax. Need 2" OD. Like this guy: https://www.bhphotovideo.…360qr_mini_aluminum.html
Dang I need to step up my game, I just tie my cat trax under the boat with some rope and bungee cords, lol!!!

Great idea about the pipe clamps. Very common for the grip department (films).

Dood- that knot is awesome!
I need one to stopper the emergency release on my garage door opener!
Or as a heaving line for my anchor chain...
If it were pocket-sized we could tie eight different keys to it!
Looks kinda like the Corona virus.
Maybe I'll pass.

I used to tie my beach wheels to the hull top just in front of the cross bar on my F16. As I was loading up for a trip last week and needed room to hook up the spinnaker pole, I tried them on the sterns. Worked out perfect tied to the trailer with craddles resting on the stern tops. Rode like a champ.
