Anyone have good ideas for cooler setup on a big cat? My last boat was a Hobie 17 and I lashed a small cooler on one of the wings for extended sailing days, but still working on where to put and how to secure a cooler on the new boat without wings. Seems like a NACRA 20 has lots of room but lots of lines to manage too.

Add ports to the hull. We either put the soft cooler in the hull then load it up or snap small gear bags to the port lids for quicker access. If you are interested, I can give you the hole locations that will work behind the daggerboard trunk to miss the bulkheads.

lots of options - many good ways - really depends on your lines and block locations

for me, the best solution is a med sized cooler with a velcro lid (zippers always fail, esp in salt water) that is low profile and can be lashed to the forward beam/hike strap area. for me this give me access to all my running lines. it can be a wet spot so you have to make sure your cooler is pretty water tight and will stay closed in the event of some big waves or bumps.



In this pic you can see my buddy has a soft cooler tied to the forward beam / hiking strap area (boat in back)


another option is center of the forward tramp, but this will need a 2 lines lashed to something to keep everything in place during deep heeling OR looped around the boom with just the right amount of slack - as seen below

Not familiar with with boardless cats. What boat are you sailing, suppose you sail the boat in front, G-Cat 17?

Hi Lars, that is one of 3 G-cats that were built to the f16 box rule
Brett Moss (pro sailor) was hired to race one of these gcats in the f16 Races several years ago (racing against all modern f16 cats with boards). IF it went well, GCAT was going to try and go back into production. It went very bad. Brett had no experience on this boat (that sails very differently than a modern design) and ended up crashing and destroying the gcat and damaging a competitors boat

Hans (G) sold the remaining ones.

That is not me in the pic- that is Ron

he was / is an engineer and later redesigned the front beam and removed the entire dolphin striker (hit a lot of waves and slowed the boat down), made his own carbon fiber rudders, and then,...

it ended poorly for this gcat too
