I have a very random question and hopeful for your help.
I have purchased a year 2000 Hobie 20 Miracle that came with a old trailer.
The trailer has a 17 digit number stamped on the front tongue but does not follow any format for a proper VIN number. The stamp is of quite poor quality and therefore its very difficult to determine what digit is what. For example, digit position 6, 15, 16, and 17 could all be several different possibilities. I attached a picture of what the possibilities could be.
There is no VIN number anywhere else on the trailer.
There is also no indication anywhere of who may have manufactured this trailer.
We believe it was built in the year 2000, same as the sailboat and was originally owned in Florida we think.
Using the pictures attached, does anybody here recognize what company may have manufactured this trailer? Trailex has already said they did not make it.
Key Sailing in Pensacola did not recognize it either.
Perhaps someone here has a similar trailer and or a similar style VIN?
Maybe someone can recommend trailer manufacturers from the year 2000?
I'm out of options to get it registered without a VIN.
So far the DMV is refusing to proceed with any registration and will not register it as a home made trailer.
Do you have any ideas on what I might be able to do to proceed?
Hopeful I can figure out how to attach a picture.....
Thank you
Greg
