I'm looking for cup/water bottle holders for my beach cat. So far my google skills have not been up to the task.

I'm specifically looking for something that can be clipped onto the wire shrouds. Barring that, something that I can mount without drilling or cutting the boat. Any ideas?

I hadn't found anything either. I built a line "holder" that I clip on the the trapeze that hangs.. a bit sketchy in waves.. I think the trick with something mounted on the shroud is keeping it from rolling with beverage in it.

Are there some kinds of clips that can attach to shrouds? Thinking something that'll clip/hang and is sewed to a tap of some kind of insulated can holder... The trick is to get something with some grip and will hold your drink above the nominal splash level... Maybe the chain plates are high enough? I tried buying some swiveling drink holders but that was a fail due to the 2" tubing making up my wings... Still, no drink holders...

this is a deep rabbit hole with no great solution as far as i found. I have tried dozens of methods. From: homemade pvc cup holders (which did work pretty well), velcro/cloth beer holder (secure on the side stay), to swinging cup holders below the boom - they all fail in some way or multiple ways. Things under the boom get snagged when tacking, same with most hanging side stay cup holders.

I went so far as to crimp a bead (like the hobie16 uses with a fork aloft to set the forestay) so i could elevate my beer holder (bad idea for your / crews hands). most get wet when you tack and don't have the ability to take your drink with you (this is a balancing act when sailing solo, with jib and maybe spin), some fall overboard.

I ended up using a well secured cooler with a velcro lid flap near the mast, and in a coordinated 2 second burst: I drop the mainsheet (or put it in my teeth) open the lid, grab the bottle, twist open the top. take a swig. put the lid on bottle and twist, get in cooler, close lid, secure velco and then ... swallow my rum ....

Sometimes I use a "soft cooler" that's shaped like a thick briefcase that lends itself nicely to being secured on the tramp. I also have a tramp bag from Murrays that I can put the cooler in. I used to have a boat where I had an extra-large "tramp pocket" sewed on all the way across and it was made of the same mesh the tramp was, that worked the best.

Don't forget that small catamarans "hove to" just like monohulls. If you're unfamiliar with this technique, all you do is backwind the jib, leave your main all the way out and secure your helm hard alee. Your boat will just sit there, hardly moving. If you're alone it will give you time to put on or adjust your harness or get that drink out of the cooler. The only downside is your main will be against the shrouds, but hey, isn't that what vinyl covered shrouds and chafe tape is for?

Been in the cycling industry for years...Last year I installed one of these on my FX1's boom along with a side load bottle cage. Can reach from either side of the boat. Worked great!

Lose the swinging part and just zip tie the cage to the shroud. You need a koozie so it fits tight. Either drink your beer before you tack or just have another one ready on the other side of the boat. I'm in fresh water so rust is not a problem. They've been on for years.

Great - now my boat will look like it has a chicken pox of drink holders all over it. Getting ready to sail ought to be fun - loading all the carriers up... The zip tie to the shrouds looks interesting except I trailer sail, so that's one more piece to do.... Anything related to mounting on my boom is out, however as I can't reach it effectively out on the wings. For me, it has to be shrouds or sewn into the wing covers (just the wings get doused by wave action).

I added 4 beverage pockets to my wing seats and two on the tramp.....sized to fit a bottle of wine or a bail bottle Grolsch......with the Hobie 21SE....why be without? Don't asked how much these mesh pockets cost......

Here's an idea. Beach your boat on a nearby sandbar, relax, enjoy a drink from your cooler and when done, resume sailing.

Guys, this isn’t rocket science. I don’t have a photo, but we’ve employed a $1.29 solution for years.
You can buy fabric can holders, (foam in between the fabric outer/inner layers), that have a built in plastic clip at the top.
Simply clip on the wire, just above the trap handle, leaves both hands free when required, but beverage still available. Hydration supply is above the splash zone, unless you flip.
When tacking, unclip, hold the clip in your teeth, reclip once you cross over. Rinse Repeat. Replenish via a soft cooler with Velcro access flap, attached to hiking straps.
We also heave-to, or pull up on one of several small beaches which are almost never occupied as the approaches are shallow.

Isn’t there photos somewhere here, with a kegerator on his Cat? I’m pretty sure a member here did it. Sounds good, but I’d have a helluva time putting my double tap unit on any of my Cats. The idea of having really good craft beer does tempt one though.

We NEVER bring bottles on board, not even on the powerboats. At some point, you are going to break one, & Murphy says it will be in shallow water. Besides, they are hard on the teeth in bumpy conditions. All European,(imported) cans are 500ml, just crack the top half way. It s got to be REALLY rough before they spill, & they simply cannot come out of the cozy. If they do, youve got way bigger problems.
On the H18, with wings. I took the traps off, as no one used them, & the bungees just didnt work well strung over the wing tube. For that boat we used a bit of split tubing, at the appropriate height, held from sliding down by some wrappings of sail tape.
These cozy's are neoprene, wetsuit material, they come with the clip attached...I'm thinking a previous sailor solved his dilema.

Cans are a foregone conclusion/assumption. Bottles aren't allowed on the beach around here. Great ideas, though. Think this is solved.
