I keep the remote in a drybag necklace. it goes longer than i do on a set of batteries.. and gets plenty loud. I throw a http://www.kiwichoice.com/portable-chargers/kiwi-u-powered in the box to keep my phone powered because i also use it to log my gps coordinates and that drains the battery. http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UTF8&hl=en&msa=0&msid=114788733549582253451.00048a72e2fe3b418b351&z=12 - before i added the kiwi charger :(
So I just made one of these and it works great. One change I did, was to use a Monster remote control, http://www.monstercable.com/productdisplay.asp?pin=3714 Mainly because it's naturally water resistant but it did take a bit of filing of the headset plug to get the headset plug in the jack. I used a pelican 1400 case with two 5" round speakers mounted on the lid. The whole things works as advertised. It's really cool.
