If I can on the windward side I pull it up and try to quickly slam it back down to lock and this sometimes works. This can be hard to do on the leeward side depending on conditions and my crew is usually one of boys and they don't have the strength to pull up by rope alone.
I have new springs and bolts (not the hooked bolt) but all the other parts are original. I think I will have to pull the entire hook bolt out and take a good look. They don't look bent at all to me but who knows.[/quote]
