I've been reading through a lot of these forums about what to do with punky hulls. Like many old Hobie 16's mine is very soft in between the bows and the trampoline. I would say it's the first two feet starting from the trampoline. I got the boat for a dirt cheap price so I can't complain.
My question is will injecting the hulls affect the weight of the hulls by a large amount? And since it is just the front of the hulls will it make my cat more prone to pitch pole? Also is there another solution to this problem that isn't too expensive?

If you're really in-tune with your boat, and you sail a lot, you might notice a difference--I did when I injected my H16, but mine took almost a full gallon of resin because it was so bad!
Another solution for the problem is to just add a bow pole. A fiberglass pole will work fine, but carbon fiber is best because it's lighter (if you can spring for it). Either material works well enough under compression and will make it so your bows can't fold as easily. You WILL notice the weight of the bow pole, but the weight is worth the peace of mind, in my book. -

i THINK you mean Bow Foil.... this goes accross from bow to bow. I have never seen one on a hobie but it may help a little.

Okay cool. Before I was reading into this problem what I thought would be a good idea is to just cut out the soft areas and do a fiberglass repair. I have a feeling though that that is a bad idea haha. What do yall think? -

To cut it out,,, NOT a good idea. A bow pole or foil~~never heard of it and it still won't FIX the problem~~just prolong it, then you'll have to get another cat... My friend didn't take care of his then the bow gave in when he was out sailin... he had to drive around the other side of the lake to put the cat on the trailer and bring it home. That was the last I seen it. Maybe he shot it like ya do a horse

Okay cool. Well if it doesn't make a huge difference in hull weight then I guess I'll inject. I'm a brand new catamaran sailor so this first boat I want to have fun on. Appreciate the help from you all! -
