Loose Footed Sail

Wondering since i have a loose footed sail and the tack is adjusted by downhaul not hooked with a gooseneck assy,and the only thing holding the clew is just the rear of the boom via shackle.Could i go boomless or not. -

i think it depends more on the length of the foot of the sail. most boomed cats use a long footed sail and most boomless cats a short footed sail
if you just remove the boom and attached the mainsheet blocks directly to the foot of a long footed sail the horizontal component of the mainsheet loads will pull the sail pulled forward and into a horrible shape
if you can compare line drawings of both boomless and boomed boats i think you will see that the sheeting angles are very different
boomless almost vertical and boomed more angled
