The 5.8 I just bought has some seriously faded transoms on it, from a medium grey to so light it's almost white. I actually kind of dig the black transoms look, and wondered if anyone here had ever repainted theirs, or if ya'll had any general advice as to what to use. I'm thinking maybe some of this:

Awesomely, black is available in half pint sizes, which is probably all I'd need.
Later on, the boat is going to need some gel coat crack fill and either new gel coat or some paint. I'm inclined to just paint the thing, but that's probably a few months down the road.
Paint for Nacra 5.8 transoms?

The paint that you listed above is Interlux Brightside 1 part paint.
If you are considering painting your hulls at a later date you probably should check in to Interlux Primier 2 part paint. It is a lot more durable and long lasting and from what I understand is that your not supposed to put 2 part over 1 part for some reason.
Check out this thread on gel-coat and paint. Scroll down until you see the comments by Dac. He seems to know more about paint than most of us.

I have painted many of them with black spray paint. I use Rust-Oleum that is specialty paint for plastic. I called the factory and was told that it will also work on fiberglass. Remove the rudder gudgeons. I take a piece of carboard place it over the transom and trace out the shape. Take a utility knife and cut it out just a little shy of the line. Place it just over the edge of the transom and paint away. I do multiple light coats. It will look great and last 3 or 4 years.

I painted mine with Valspar plastic enamel. This is a paint that is advertised for plastic lawn furniture. The transoms rudders and dagger boards were painted white. The blue stripe on the side of my boat was also painted. The paint scratched off on the rudders where they touch the brackets. The blue has not faded or chalked over any in 5 years. I really liked the results for less then $20.00 and three hours work.
I don't know if you can easily paint over this paint.

Yes, I repainted my transoms - check the first picture at this url http://austinyachtclub.net/members/jcasto/
You can't see the starboard transom, it's green (port & starboard - get it?). If you look really close, you can almost see my kid's name in green paint on the red transom. We used some cheap acrylic paint, and he had a blast "painting daddy's boat" while I fixed something else. the extra 3 micrograms of weight wasn't worth worrying about, compared to his smile, and the paint has barely faded 8 yrs later. -

the transoms on my 5.2 were looking very tired as the factory black was just about all off
so i brushed on a thick coat of dark blue enamel some years ago and it sealed them up nicely -

I also painted the transoms. It's the same boat in the link as the boat next to Steve's in the above picture.
