What's the optimal method to use a righting bag? I'm 220lbs and sail a H-16, was solo when I knocked her over. Do you fill it, hang it over your shoulder then lean out with the righting lines to increase lever arm? Or do you just hang it over a hull, tie it off and hang out on ropes. Could have used mine last weekend, forgot to pack it in tramp ditty bag

I have a standard knotted righting line that I hang off of. I also use a snap shackle to clip my righting bag to it. I use a block to get a 3:1 purchase on the bag, so I fill it, hoist it, cleat it, then lean back and right the boat like I normally would, with the bag and line going over my shoulder. Cat comes right up, and the adventure of bringing in a full righting bag being drug under the boat begins.
