I never personally met him, but after spending a week during the Tybee 500 with many beachcat sailors who participated in the Worrell 1000 and talking to many others over the years I feel even more that this is a great loss for the beachcat sailing community.
Please share you thoughts about how the Worrell 1000 affected you, I was reading about the race long before I began sailing beachcats in 1992 because I always loved sailing and read all I could about extreme events like solo round the worlds. The early Worrell 1000 where it was Hobie 16's and "just get there first, no rules" were crazy events that couldn't be duplicated in today's world.

my first cat was a h16 that was used in a worrell (supposedly)
it is a shame he was not able to resurrect the race as planned.
