Hi all,
I need some experienced eyes on this. Here's a link to pictures. You can reply to me here or on my blog. My access to the web is unpredictable, I'll be checking replies tomorrow. Thanks in advance.

Dan, I looked carefully at your pics, don't quite see what you're referring to as there is line wrapped around each pylon. If you're referring to the slightly depressed (concave) area just forward of the pylon, you might want to check for delam, soft area just forward of pylon. Don't think the pylon is twisting as the tramp frame would prevent this, sinking... maybe. check out pics of internal pylon here, http://www.thebeachcats.c…pictures&g2_itemId=10731

Your pics look very similar to a H16 that i had that was delaminating. Push on that area with your palm and see if it depresses fairly easy. Delam in the pylon area may be hard to fix because of all the load generated at the pylons. push down on that corner of the tramp and see if the concave area flexes. If it does your pylon may of broken loose from the hull. Could be one or the other..Or both.
Push on pylon and hull and report back. -

hi,
im not Dan but I have a similare problem, infront of my pylon there is a concave depression. the hull seems relatively solid to the touch (not the typical de-lamination soft spots) however when i push down on the pylon i see some minor flexing (the hull deck area deflects down a little) . Recent research is indicating it's a loose pylon shoe? if so should i somehow pull the pylon back into place and glass away through an access port??
thanks Allen -

Hi Allen. Sounds like you're on the right track. Here is a link to an article on pylon shoe repair. It starts on page 14.

plasenciaa1, it sounds to me like the fiberglass sling under the pylon has come loose. Your pylon has a big foam "shoe" on the bottom on it that rests in a sling made from fiberglass that is attached to the walls of the hull. That happened to my first H16 back in 2001 when a particularly nasty tornado picked my boat off its trailer and deposited it in the neighbor's yard. My crew and I didn't discover it until we were about halfway out to Horn Island from Ocean Springs, MS. Under load the forward port pylon was actually deflecting downward and deforming the deck of the boat. I found instructions on repairing this somewhere online...maybe the old yahoogroup. The process is not fun. It involves cutting the deck forward and aft of the pylon, prying the deck loose so the whole section with the pylon comes up, rebuilding the sling, and reattaching the removed pylon section. I suppose you could put a real big access port in the hull and go in that way, but either way you are in for some work. Sure beats a catastrophic structural failure in the middle of flying a hull though...
